About us

Founded with the mission to rethink how Namibia’s colonial history is told and experienced, Shared History Tours is a Namibian tour operator specialising in postcolonial city tours, curated journeys, and educational workshops. Developed in collaboration with local communities and historians, our experiences explore German colonialism, Apartheid, anti-colonial resistance, and the ways these histories continue to shape Namibia today. We offer travellers a more meaningful and historically informed way to engage with Namibia’s past and present.

Our Swakopmund Partners

Laidlaw Peringanda

Laidlaw Peringanda is the founder of the Swakopmund Genocide Museum. He is a direct descendant of survivors of the Ovaherero and Nama Genocide. His great -grandmother was imprisoned in the Swakopmund concentration camp and passed her memories down to him – stories he now shares with travellers exploring the city. Laidlaw has made it his mission to shed light on Swakopmund’s colonial past and preserve these histories for future generations through his tours and storytelling.

Vision

We seek to contribute to a more responsible and decolonial approach to tourism in Namibia by centring marginalised voices and encouraging critical engagement with the country’s colonial past. We envision travel experiences that help visitors develop a deeper understanding of Namibia’s history and how it continues to shape the country today.

By working with local communities, traditional authorities, activists, and experienced guides, we aim to broaden how Namibia’s history is shared through tourism and foster a more comprehensive understanding of the country’s colonial past.

Mission

Our mission is to offer travellers some of the most educational and well-researched historical tours in Namibia, designed to deepen understanding while exploring the country. Through guided city tours, curated travel experiences, and workshops, we provide historical insight and context that add meaning to each journey.

By working closely with historians, postcolonial experts, and local knowledge holders, we ensure our tours are accurate, thoughtful, and engaging. Our aim is to give travellers the knowledge and perspective that enrich their travel experience and allow them to experience Namibia with greater awareness and understanding.
